Admission to the International Environmental Doctoral School (IEDS) associated with the Centre for Polar Studies at the University of Silesia in Katowice is in accordance with Resolution No. 352 of the Senate of the University of Silesia in Katowice passed on 24 January 2023 concerning admission requirements and mode of recruitment.

The recruitment committee shall evaluate the candidate’s research activities and competencies as regards specific tasks in the research project, expressed as a point score:

- 3 points – very good;
- 2 points – good;
- 1 point – poor;
- 0 points – no scientific achievements.

- 3 points – significant (scholarships, fellowships at good Polish and foreign research centers, national prizes or awards, domestic or foreign workshops or training courses, participation in Polish or foreign projects);
- 2 points – moderate (local prizes or awards, workshops or training courses, participation in university projects);
- 1 point – poor achievements;
- 0 points – no achievements.

During the evaluation of the candidate’s scientific achievements, as well as achievements resulting from conducting scientific research, scholarships, awards, and scientific experience gained in the country or abroad, workshops and scientific training, and participation in research projects, only those achievements and activities of the candidate will be taken into account, which contributed to the improvement of competences to fulfill the tasks in the research project, or confirms such competences.

The planned amount of the scholarship during the first 44 months of the Ph.D. project is PLN 5,000 gross. The scholarship will be financed under the NCN (National Science Centre, Poland) no. 2022/47/B/ST10/01129. During the remaining part of the doctoral studies the PhD student receives a scholarship according to the Act of 20th July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science.

The scholarship will be financed under the NCN (National Science Centre, Poland) no. 2021/41/B/ST10/03660 “Spatial representativeness of aerosol profiles, holistic multi-instrument approach”. During the remaining part of the doctoral studies the PhD student receives a scholarship according to the Act of 20th July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science.

The planned amount of the scholarship during the first 30 months of the PhD project is PLN 5,000 gross, which is approximately PLN 3,690 net. The scholarship will be financed under the NCN (National Science Centre, Poland). Regulations on awarding funds for the implementation of tasks financed by the National Science Center in the field of research projects, as defined by the NCN Council Resolution No. 95/2020 of September 14, 2020. During the remaining part of the doctoral studies the PhD student receives a scholarship according to the Act of 20th July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science.
