We are proud to announce that a doctoral student at the International Environmental Doctoral School, Mohit Phulara, Msc, has been awarded in the 16th edition of the Rector’s Distinction competition at the University of Silesia.

Mohit Phulara Received the Distinction of the Rector of the University of Silesia in the 16th edition of the competition for scientific achievements and popular science and social activities as a PhD student in the discipline of Earth and Environmental Sciences. He specialises in dendroclimatic studies, with a particular focus on Arctic and alpine vegetation. His fieldwork has traversed the polar extremes of Svalbard and the highlands of the Himalayas, demonstrating his prowess in conducting research under the most challenging conditions. He has collaborated with a number of scientific institutions such as the University of Ljubljana, the WSL in Switzerland, the Czech Academy of Sciences and India’s National Institute of Himalayan Environment GB Pant. He has received grants such as NAWA PROM, Bekker NAWA and PRELUDIUM from the National Science Centre. The results of his research on Himalayan and Arctic bush ecology have been presented in numerous publications and conferences. Additionally, he is involved in various social actions and the popularisation of science, including taking part in GeoPiknik exhibitions and serving as an ambassador for the International Environmental Doctoral School. Remarkably, his involvement goes beyond academia and includes social activities such as tree planting and clean-up campaigns, as well as helping people with intellectual disabilities in India. He shares Indian culture (including through cuisine and dance) with his Polish colleagues, while immersing himself in the Polish culinary arts.
