IDEA
A few days – is that enough to get to know each other better? We will check it during the first Transform4Europe Week. It is one of the events initiated by our European University. During this time, instead of classes and lectures, there will be meetings, conversations, workshops, shows and many other events so that we can learn more about us.
The organiser of the pilot edition is the University of Silesia in Katowice. In May 2022 we will invite to Poland students, PhD students, as well as academic and non-academic staff representing each of the alliance’s universities.
Five days will be filled with a rich offer of master classes, joint research projects, didactic classes, excursions, workshops and artistic events. We will have a chance to learn alliance languages as part of the Languages for Lunch initiative. Afternoon meetings will allow us to get to know the local art and culture better. Concerts and thematic evenings will be organized in cooperation with the Student Government at the University of Silesia. Evening attractions will take place both in clubs and in outdoor locations. It is worth noting that Transform4Europe Week is also an online meeting prepared for the whole academic community of our European University.
1. EDUCATIONAL STREAM
We will invite students from every university of the alliance to participate in the Transform4Europe Week. Our guests will meet in the morning hours for thematic classes led by outstanding experts – scientists and teachers representing Transform4Europe universities. The participants will talk primarily about the most important challenges facing our civilisation, which we wish to confront by cooperating within the framework of a European University. These include:§
- digital transformation and smart regions,
- environmental transformation and sustainability,
- societal transformation, community building and inclusion.
We will also ensure that the afternoon meetings offered are appealing as well. We will organise workshops on design thinking, intercultural communication, and effective negotiation, as well as thematic classes during which students will learn more about European values and identity and contemporary challenges to civilisation. We will demonstrate how to prepare professional film materials, organise trips around the region, and teach our guests how to cook traditional Silesian dishes.
The research programme has been prepared with researchers from each university of the Transform4Europe alliance in mind, they will be able to talk about their research interests during master lectures and research seminars. We will also prepare a special “research possibilities exhibition”. By doing so, we want to make it easier for researchers to establish international research cooperation within our alliance.
Transform4Europe Week is also an offer extended to doctoral students
of our European University. Students of 3rd cycle studies will mainly participate
in research trainings. Researchers from all partner universities as well as entrepreneurs will be invited to run them together.
The Transform4Euorpe Week meetings will be an opportunity to establish cooperation between administrative staff of all universities of the alliance. Very often their tasks are similar, they take care of the image of the university and that everything works as it should. They will be able to get to know each other. During the workshops, they will not only exchange their experiences but will also gain new competencies.
In this part of the programme, we will present works and projects of artists associated with the University of Silesia, as well as the achievements of art students from faculties of partner universities.
Cultural and social stream is a programme for all participants of Transform4Europe Week. We will prepare workshops, during which we will reflect together on what challenges our regions are facing and what we can do to make them even better places for their residents. Afternoon activities will give you a chance to learn more about the culture of our region, which is one of the most distinctive places in Poland. We will hold concerts and meetings in clubs and open spaces.
